This is one of the first old timey songs I learned when I discovered ‘mountain minor’ tuning – that’s really a modal tuning: I tune it gDGCD, but some folks also tune the fourth string down to C. This is loosely based upon the singing of Clarence Ashley – I always felt it was quite a driving tune, but Mr Ashley nailed it with quieter finesse. Taught me not to try so hard, but here it is.
